We had two excellent presentations at this meeting. Terra from CiQlovía gave a fantastic run down of the history of CiQlovía's journey impacting our city. Their work has focused on imagining and demonstrating the positive benefits of safe, people-focused streets in areas where it is needed and wanted. Not only does CiQlovía provide a fun environment to get folks out of their houses and cars and get into the community, but they also focus on connecting the people to important health resources. For their 10th anniversary they will be taking over Kathryn between San Pedro and Louisiana on Sunday, October 20 from 10 AM -2 PM. Stay tuned for updates about how to volunteer and how Strong Towns ABQ as a whole plans to get involved!
Oli (head of Strong Towns ABQ I-25 Task Force) provided a status report on the current efforts to limit the expansion of I-25 through the two projects at Gibson and the S-Curve. Out reach has been done with many local Neighborhood Associations and other interested powers. Those who are interested in collaborating to continue this work should attend the I-25 Task Force meeting this following Monday July 22, 2024 at 6 pm at High and Dry Brewing(529 Adams St NE, Albuquerque). Oli's slides will be added to the I-25 page on the website.
The homework for the month is to get outside of your house (or hop on a Zoom call) and attend a Strong Towns relevant event outside of our monthly meetings. You can find all sorts of excellent opportunities on the Calendar. While our monthly meetings are a fantastic time to get to know each other and share ideas, getting out into the community is really where we can be making an impact. If you don't know where to start feel free to reach out to leadership and we'll help you get plugged in on an opportunity.
